Had a crazy month there folks. I’ve been absent, for sure! But summer is here and we are moving forward! Lots of sessions and enjoying time with my girls. We recently returned from a wonderful vacation in Florida. We stay at Watercolor Resort and boy is it great for kids. We have vacationed there for 10 years now and it keeps getting better. You can bike everywhere and this year we were able to give the girls walkie talkies and turn them loose. They found a secret place for catching frogs, among other things. They are also obsessed with lizards, and would like to have several as pets. Some of my faves from our week:

Where we’ve been…. | Denver Family Photographer

What to do with this crazy, black dog. We got him almost 6 months ago-some days it feels like 6 years! The chewed on crocs, my driver’s license with holes in it (I forsee a trip to the DMV!), children running in all directions as he comes bounding down the hall. But when he has a quiet moment-like in these pictures here-I realize that we really do love this dog. Like war veterans, we have all been through so much together. We watch American Idol on our bed while he lays all over us and snores. The girls take turns feeding and brushing him; in fact, they fight over it. Just like toddlers-he won’t be little forever. In 5 years he will laze around the house and we will miss our insane, active dog. So I am trying to just enjoy it! Here’s what I captured during a few brief, quiet minutes with Buddy.
I’m out!
September 29, 2009I am off to sunny Florida for a few days-until October 6th. If you are interested in a session, email me and I will get back to you after I return. I am still booking for November but October is FULL. There is still room on the Mini Session Day…if you would like a spot there click on “specials” above for instructions.

Until next week…

I’m not a doctor, but I play one on tv
September 22, 2009I am in the sick ward.
I have 2 sick kids and a dog that is driving me absolutely insane. He had to go to doggie daycare today…I think he had a good time.
I am not a dr. But isn’t it funny that when you become a mom, you suddenly become this medical expert. I throw around terms like “incubation period” and “rapid strep test” like I am a real MD. I can diagnose an ear infection without all those fancy tools! Just give me the amoxicillin for crying out loud! This week’s diagnosis conundrum is, do we have swine flu, or H1N1, as they are now calling it. Fever? check. Sore throat? check. Cough? check. Runny nose? check. But no one in the dr’s office actually wants to SEE you, in fact, they discourage it. When I went there to get a seemingly helpful homeopathic remedy for $21.00, the sign outside said all children and parents with those symptoms must wear a mask. I made Sara wait in the hall. I felt bad making her feel like this diseased person. I mean really, what is everyone so worked up about? If you get this elusive swine flu…you will live. You might go crazy, inside for days on end…but you will live. Trust me, I’m a doctor.

I ♥ Faces Before & After Challenge!

Week 34-Before & After!
This is a non-judging week (although I haven’t won yet!–someday…) but a fun photo challenge. We are to share our “before” and “after” images to illustrate just how far we’ve come in photography. So please…be gentle. Here goes.
When I first started photographing my kids, and shortly thereafter as a “pro”-I thought the end all be all was black and white pictures on a black background. And when I was feeling crazy, I loved me some hand coloring. These were taken in early 2005, a couple months after I purchased my first digital SLR, the Canon 10D. Now I look at these and think…ick. BUT. You have to start somewhere! I adored these images of my girls:

These days…what I am doing looks a little more like this:

I originally thought myself a black and white photographer…but now I am in love with COLOR! I am constantly exploring new photoshop actions and lightroom presets. I love a 70′s vintage feel. I love a pop of color, an image that says wow. And that black background? Well, I do still use it occasionally for newborn sessions…but it often sits collecting dust in my storage area. Just goes to show you, times change, tastes change…and your photography can grow right along with it.
