Well I had planned to take some brand new stunning backlit images this afternoon (yes I wait until Thursday to pull this together) but then it rained, and the clouds rolled in, and there went my backlighting. So I had to dig in the archives. Backlighting, in my opinion, is a photographer’s best friend. Especially here in Colorado where you might be on location and you can’t find one. single. decent. tree. Case in point. This family session from last fall. We met at their friend’s property, which was a beautiful ranch, but as with many ranches here there were no trees. And it was bright and sunny outside. So what do we do? I backlit the entire session. And it was, and is, one of my favorite family sessions to date.

so lovely…and I love backlight too! It really is awesome when you feel comfortable using it for a session.
Love this! Our light is so hot and harsh that learning techniques like this is the only way to survive.
